Grids and the Culturally/Psychologically Significant Photo
NO 2020 SESSION  CHECK BACK IN 2021

 9:45 to 5:30 PM

Shoenfeld Santa Fe Studio
Approved for 7 CEU's $175

With the repetitive structure of the grid as a basis, participants will create a series of images in response to a psychologically and/or culturally significant photo.  Including "cultural" issues in this workshop is an addition as of 2018. This is in response to the major upheavals we have experienced related to immigration, funding for services, etc.

As the image is repeated, perceptions and visual boundaries shift. A variety of media will be offered for this evocative and creative investigation of how memory and imagination alter perception and imagery. No previous art experience required. We will work through lunch with a few short breaks, for snacks and beverages: remember to bring your lunch!

The Creative Process - Spring Cycle

NO 2020 SESSION  CHECK BACK IN 2021

Approved for 7 CEU's $175.00
Jane Shoenfeld Santa Fe Studio

For some, early spring inspires wonder, and identification with new life, creativity and a feeling that all is right with the world.  For others the brevity and innocence of early spring evokes a sense of loss. There is a paradoxical quality to this supremely beautiful and all too brief season. Gathering inspiration by making art and (weather permitting) writing outdoors among budding trees and lilacs, we will explore how spring affects our energy, creativity, and insight. Art processes include collage, pastel drawing, and watercolor. Through the expressive arts, group interaction, and stimulating discussion, you will discover how the spring cycle is reflected in psyche as part of personal growth and change. Join us for this creative and fun workshop! No previous art experience needed.

This year Resonating  in the Presence of Nature is adapted to keep us all safe. We will be nourished by vistas of timeless beauty.  Indoor areas will be supervised and organized for social distancing and safe practices.

The workshop will include demonstrations, instruction, and one to one interaction with each particpant. To maintain safe practices, workshop will be limited to seven participants.

Ghost Ranch is 21,000 acres of red rock circled by blue sky. Join us in O'Keeffe Country and immerse yourself in the magic and power of Ghost Ranch.  The workshop schedule includes time to wander in the extrordinary canyons and mesas of the Southwest.

Each day we will paint outside using pastel as the primary medium. We'll also spend time in the studio working with mixed media - including pastel and water based media. Our focus will be on expressing our response to the energy and power of of the landscape through simplification and accessing the imagination. The emphasis is on process versus product.  All levels of experience are welcome.

This is a multidimensional experience leading to an expansion of creative awareness and communication.  In addition, award winning poet and teacher Donald Levering (donaldlevering.com) will offer a hands-on session on ekphrastic poetry.  Ekphrastic poetry is poetry in response to visual art. Working across media, from imagery to word, creates a merging of the senses that expands your awareness and your art. Levering will also be joining us for our morning discussions about the creative process and our practice.
